Floor Control System
The Challenge: Monsanto Company’s
Fibers Division wanted a system which would control dozens of
sophisticated, high speed manufacturing systems and track inventory
samples and quality performance for the world’s largest plant for
acrylic fiber production.
The Solution: A.J. Boggs led the
development of a radio-frequency (wireless) bar code scanner system
that maintained inventory information in an area controller running
an Oracle database system. Our solution was based on a client-server
architecture and managed message routing, transaction processing and
control using over 30 radio-frequency data terminals interaction
with dozens of cell controllers running Factory Link Systems. The system had
redundancy that eliminated single points of failure.
Results: This project delivered an
efficient,
reliable service that that improved quality and communications in
Monsanto’s Acrylan production facility. It was one of the largest
and most efficient systems built to date.
