The Michigan Electronic Grant System (MEGS)

The successful implementation of an electronic grants management system requires:

  • organizational leadership (commitment and top cover),
  • a robust and flexible system,
  • strong project management, and
  • effective business process redesigns.

The State of Michigan faced many challenges as it moved from paper to web-based systems to manage grants. MEGS has helped the State reduce redundant data submissions, improve grant application processes, and increase customer satisfaction.

As a result of the efforts of the project team, the Michigan Departments of Information Technology (DIT) and Education (MDE) have an innovative system from Agate Software that manages approximately $1 billion in annual grant funding.

Providing project management for MEGS, A.J. Boggs & Company worked with program managers to define the requirements for an effective and flexible system. Project Managers helped to continually improve grant processes, manage change and vendors, train users, and assure quality across the MEGS project. The Rational Unified Process (RUP) was used to help elicit requirements and develop the product vision.

For more information, contact Bill Maas at bmaas@ajboggs.com or 517-749-0816.  MEGS supports the following grant programs within the current project office:
